 Boxes or Crates...what's the difference?

I understand a crate is made with slats and gaps, and a box has no gaps.
Anyway....there are a few available the moment.

 A basket for your sewing, embroidering and darning.

 A set of moulds for the couplings of railway trains.
though these look extremely heavy they are made of light weight timber.
